Michelle Kwan at Worlds

Michelle Kwan skated 2 seconds off her 2 minute 40 second time limit for the short program. HOW COULD SHE?!?? A five-time world champion like her knows that you just CANNOT do something like that. Judges at the world figure skating championships followed International Skating Union guidelines and deducted marks when she exceeded the 2 minute 40 second time limit for a short program by two seconds. By ISU rules, that kind of violation requires a 0.1 deduction off both the skater's technical and presentations marks....the clock starts running as soon as the skater makes a movement and ends when they stop moving, not when the music begins or ends, which means Michelle was skating too slowly. She got a technical mark as low as 5.1 out of 6.0, talk about ouch, and she skated cleanly, but the low marks dropped her to 4th place. Hence, Sasha Cohen took first place, again, with 4 perfect marks of 6.0. However I'm not gonna give it to much to Sasha for getting those marks; the worlds hand out 6.0s as if they're free. That pisses me off, however still, Michelle's losing it....

Plastic Surgery

What is up with teenagers having plastic surgery?!

Do teens not understand that having plastic surgery is making it obvious to others that they're not happy with themselves? Do they really think changing their appearance is going to make them happier?? Some teens believe plastic surgery is a quick fix for their physical, and in turn, their emotional problems, and that's simply isn't the case. Looks don't directly translate into feelings. Sure plastic surgery may be a quick fix, but it doesn't prepare people for the things that can't be so easily snipped and tucked in the real world. I feel like they're picking the easiest and fastest solution while actually avoiding the root of the problem. And to make it worse there's so much media coverage of plastic surgery on TV shows like "Extreme Makeover", "Nip/Tuck", "I Want a Famous Face", and "The Swan". Ridiculous.

Teenager's bodies are still growing, changing, and developing, and you can't always tell how a procedure will affect the patient years later. The human body isn't always fully developed before a person hits 18 and the cosmetic changes could become distorted as they get older. Plus, the procedures are freaking expensive, usually a several thousand dollars, and they're not covered by health insurance because they're considered unnecessary procedures. Damn these people need to get priorities straight. The smart thing to do would be to invest that money in their college education for god sakes! I understand if a teenager had to get plastic surgery because of something that was affecting them physically such as rhinoplasty to correct a nasal obstruction or cleft palate reconstruction, otoplasty (ear surgery), or scar revision. Otherwise, I think it's just plain dumb to get plastic surgery at such a young age. It's just one of those things like people who get tattoos, once they get the tattoo they usually want another one, and another one, before they have all these tattoos they'll probably regret having later. So people who have plastic surgery at a young age will probably also end up getting botox every 6 months when they're like 30 because they're terrified of wrinkles, gets face lifts, collagen injections, and god only knows what else until they die. People just don't seem to want to grow old gracefully anymore; they want to manage how they age, and it's a sad situation...

Gay Marriage

Me being the social liberal, excuse the language, WHAT'S THE FUCKING BIG DEAL!?!? These religious people talking about the sanctity of marriage. Oh let me tell you about the sanctity of marriage. You mean those shows like "Who wants to marry a millionaire" or "Joe Millionaire" or "My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance" that you know TOTALLY keep the sanctity of marriage sacred? Because you know the people that go on those shows actually have lives and really fall in love with one of the 10 people on that show they've known for like a week and live happily ever after. Uhh yeah, shows like that have made MARRIAGE merely another word in the dictionary. How can these people deny marriage between two people who really DO love each other? People argue that homosexuals just want to get married because of the tax breaks, or that homosexuals aren't religious. Could you come up with some better reasoning? What so you're saying homosexuals shouldn't get tax breaks or something? Nearly 3 in 4 people in the U.S. oppose gay marriage. Can't we respect people's values? How are gay marriages really affecting the people who are against it so much anyway?? Oh and Mr. President Bush, who so self-righteously called for a ban on same-sex marriages, attempted to write discrimination into the Constitution, and I'm sure you had a lot of pressure from his fellow social conservatives, but there's no need to have an amendment that would prevent states from recognizing BOTH same-sex marriages and civil unions.

Asian Girls & Make-Up

Have you noticed they all look the damn same in those studio shots?

For example, like the overly pucked and/or shaved eye brows; thin eyebrows make their face look bigger yet they do it anyway. They either have no eyebrows or eyebrows shaped like McDonald's M's yellow arches. They think it's artistic or something; some even do it to make them look intimidating or bitchy, when it only makes them look like a clown.

Pertaining to Korean girls, you know the ones that put tape on their eyelids or even get surgery to create a fold to make their eyes look bigger? Can't they be satisfied with their Asian features? I mean, look at Lucy Liu. She has chinky eyes, yet everyone thinks she fits the definition of the exotic Asian. Does she go put tape on her eyes? No, she'd probably think it was damn silly. We both have freckles but I can tell she's not trying to cover them up and neither am I. Freckles are a rarity in Asians! I embrace it!

Some think having caked on foundation and powder will create a mask to change their appearance and cover their flaws. Do they not realize that it is very obvious to everyone they are wearing excessive amounts of make up? Do they realize they look like every other Asian girl who does the same thing?

What is with the Asian girls who do this? When you think into it, I feel it's an insecurity issue. They want to fit in the definition of "pretty" many narrow-minded Asian make up to a skinny, almost anorexic girl, with long straight hair (most likely dyed to an almost blonde color), with tons of make-up caked on.

Make-up looks best when it enhances your natural beauty. For instance, if you have nice eyes, then it's best to accentuate your eyes with eyeshadow...or if you have nice lips, shiny lip gloss. However, it just looks nasty when people just cake it on not even thinking they'll look really fake. And holy crap it's scary when it comes off, because you've never seen what they really looked like before!

"Queen Elizabeth was never fully dressed without her make-up. In the early years she wore little, but following her attack of the smallpox in 1562, she would wear quite a lot to cover up the scars left on her face. She would paint her face with white lead and vinegar, put rouge on her lips, and paint her cheeks with red dye and egg white. This make-up was very bad for her health, particularly the white lead, as it slowly poisoned the body. While the Elizabethan tried very hard to take care of their teeth, and knew that to keep them clean was to keep them healthy, they did not have very sophisticated dental care, and teeth rotted. As a consequence, Elizabeth had to have several teeth removed as she grew older. To prevent the appearance of hollow cheeks, she would stuff rags into her mouth."

What people do. *Le sigh.

Next topic: Typing on AIM, or typing in general, whatever means...

i kaNt StAnD pPl wHo tYpE LykE dIS...

The whole upper-case lower-case type of communication I admit has toned down in the past couple years but there are still people who do it. Shouldn't people want to sound intelligent?? Because they don't when they type like a teeny bopper. They think this is some type of trend and you know, nowadays you gotta follow those trends to be hip! (sarcasm) People seem to get more immature and less individualistic as the years go by. *Le sigh again....

Spring Break

"A career is born in public--talent in privacy."
- Marilyn Monroe

Spring break is this Friday and I have so much to do when I get back to LA, mostly work. I have each day planned, split into quarters, with time slots for all the people I have to meet, appointments, errands, etc etc. The one week I get to go home I don't have even one day to relax. Then again, my spring break is so early there's no one out of school yet to spend some time with. I feel so good about everything. Recently I was able to comfort and help a friend I hadn't talked to in a long time and I was thanked for it. I think the only reason I was able to do that is because I'm happy with myself and that makes me want to help others. Now I really know what it means to love yourself before you're able to love others.

I miss everyone and I can't wait until summer to spend some quality time with you. Good luck with midterms!

P.S. Christine I'll call you when I get home :)
